Experience
Bio
Professor Mihaela Ulieru is President of the IMPACT Institute for the Digital Economy, capitalizing on achievements as Canada Research Chair in Adaptive Information Infrastructures for the eSociety. She was appointed to the Science, Technology and Innovation Council of Canada (2007), the Science and Engineering Research Council of Singapore (2006), and as Expert in ICT-Enabled Innovation at the Executive Authority for Scientific Research and Innovation of Romania (2010). As a tenured professor at the University of New Brunswick (2005-2012), she founded the Adaptive Risk Management Laboratory and led large-scale projects funded by NSERC, DRDC, CANARIE and NBIF.
Career
Professor Ulieru obtained her PhD (1995) in computational intelligence applied to systems diagnostics under the supervision of Professor Rolf Isermann at Darmstadt University of Technology. Her academic career included Brunel University, Simon Fraser University, and the Junior Nortel Chair at the University of Calgary. She founded the Canadian GAIN network in 2001 and the Emergent Information Systems Laboratory at the University of Calgary in 2002.
Leadership
She has held appointments on international advisory boards and review panels, including Maxeler Technologies, PERADA, IPROMS, NSF panels, EU FP7 expert panels, IFAC Canadian Section, and editorial leadership roles. She co-founded the ICST IT Revolutions Forum and the IEEE-IES INDIN conference series.
Expertise
Professor Ulieru is an expert in distributed intelligent systems and a frequent keynote/tutorial speaker and distinguished visiting professor internationally, including Max Planck Institute, Technical University of Vienna, Carnegie Mellon, UC San Diego, Stevens Institute of Technology, and other global institutions.
